how fragile these bodies are

This project is an exploration into health and domestic space. Using the book format to narratively investigate the ways our living spaces influence us, and how, especially when housebound, those boundaries between self and space blur and merge.

I often see myself reflected in the cracks, gaps, and peeling paint in my current home. It is in this house that I both became and discovered I was disabled in different ways and my life changed irrevecably. From a dancer and performer for most of my life to a becoming a walking stick user at age 28. As such I’ve had to make lots of changes to how I live and learn to be highly adaptable.

In this space I have grieved and grown, but the systemic cracks that led me here have become all the clearer. As I’ve ventured out from this house, as the fog over my cognition has lifted enough to allow me to read and analyse again I know I did not end up in this condition by accident. This project serves as a springboard into thinking about how our spaces influence our health and how societal structures have affected the quality of our domestic spaces.
