Photoshoot Accessibility Guide

As a chronically ill photographer, accessibility in photography is something I feel really strongly about, so I’ve put together this accessibility guide for my own shoots so you know what kinda of accommodations are available before you book! Have a need that isn’t covered here? Please don’t hesitate to ask or mention it in your pre-shoot questionnaire!

The great RAW debate

You might have come across the common debate on whether photographers should be giving out their RAWs or not. There’s many sides to the argument, and I’ll give my opinion, but first, what even is a RAW file?? First of all, let’s start with what a RAW file is not.

Are Photographers artists?

Recently I went to see Blindboy Boatclub’s podcast live here in Manchester, and the guest he had on was legendary guitarist Johnny Marr, from The Smiths. A beacon, of local (to me) talent. And there were a lot of great topics they chatted about throughout the night, but there was one conversation that really got me thinking.

A personal update…

Earlier this year I spoke about being diagnosed with ME/CFS, and the many bittersweet feelings that came along with it. After years of suffering and struggling, I was told I had an incurable, and untreatable neurological disorder that we know hardly anything about. It’s under researched, what little research there is, is underfunded, and it’s generally a very complex condition. I was told I wouldn’t be able to exercise anymore, which after a life of being active, and regulating my emotions through movement and dance, was devastating to hear.

What is image licensing and do I need it?

There are many different types of image licensing out there, and for the uninitiated, it can be a lot of confusing jargon that makes you wonder what exactly you’re paying for. A Sapphic Fantasy

This photoshoot was a celebration of Sapphic love (women loving women). Too often the Sapphic romance we get in popular media is tragic, laced with heartbreak, sadness and star crossed lovers. For once, I wanted something purely sweet, and loving, steeped in romance, not tragedy!

Self Care as a Practice

Self care is a phrase that I see thrown around a lot in the media, being used to sell more scented candles and bath bombs. But self care is about more than just having a night to pamper yourself every now and then, it should be a practice you build on over time that ultimately leads to you being happier, and healthier.

Accepting Joy

This is something personal I thought I’d share with you all, a little journey I’ve been on in my relationship to myself, and the world around me. I’ve experienced a lot in my life so far, and a lot of it, was not very good. For a very long time I told myself that all I was striving for in this world, was contentment. If I could just reach a point in my life where I was reasonably content, that would be enough, and even that seemed eons away. And I am so pleased to say I achieved that. However, after sitting here for a while, and facing new challenges along the way, I’ve realised that might not be enough.
